Bistro Savannah was named as one of our favorite restaurants after we visited Savannah for the first time in 2006. Unfortunately they’ve gone out of business since then. It seems that they were still getting reviews online up until June or July of 2009. Today that space is now occupied by Bacchus Wine Lounge which features live music, wine and cocktails. [You can find out more about them here on their Facebook page]
Bistro Savannah was distinctive because it was so small and so simple. If you read the reviews that are posted online you’ll see that some people hated them because their menu was so limited. In a place as intimate as this, you have no choice. You can’t compare it to the gigantic corporate restaurants with huge kitchens and an army of cooking ants and a menu that goes on for days.
I for one will miss their dark space with candles, rustic worn brick walls, large bold and colorful paintings, and beautiful simple food. Our favorite things don’t always last forever. If you have an idea of who might deserve this award today, please leave a comment below.
