The River House is located in an old cotton warehouse built in the 1850′s on the Savannah River. The atmosphere is rustic, but at the same time elegant. It features brick and stone walls, brick floors, antique fish prints, exposed beam ceilings, large windows, natural hardwood chairs and tables, ceiling fans and antique ship prints. One of the features you can’t miss about the place are the gigantic bakery cases filled with treats and desserts that are made on the premises and shipped all over the United States.
The lunch menu at River House features such items as: Crab Quiches (2 quiche tarts with blue crab meat, Swiss cheese, savory custard served with a mixed green salad), Grilled Tuna Salads (grilled Yellowfin Tuna, hearts of palm, toasted pecans, mixed greens, roasted red pepper garnish, balsamic vinaigrette), Shrimp Salad Sandwiches, Oyster Po Boys, BBQ Chicken Clubs (chicken, bacon, barbeque sauce, Gouda cheese, lettuce, tomato), Fried Tilapia Sandwiches, Hamburgers, Lobster Bisques, Oysters (steamed or raw), Pizzetta Blancas (mozzarella, Gouda, goat cheese, spinach, sundried tomatoes on hand rolled pizza dough), Bacon Cheddar Omelets, Shrimp and Clam Fettuccine (sautéed shrimp, diced clams, green onions, carrots, peppers in clam sauce over fettuccine with parmesan cheese), Southern Fried Chicken and Savannah Hoppin’ John Specials, Crab Cakes, Blackened Mahi Mahis (pan seared Mahi Mahi, capers, mushrooms, four pepper herbs, lemon butter sauce, angel hair pasta), Dungeness Crab Legs and Filet Mignons.
The dinner menu features some of the same entrees as the lunch menu, but includes some other dishes like: Yellowfin Tuna (center cut, charbroiled rare or medium, topped with green onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, over angel hair pasta), Veal Chop au Poivre (thick veal chop with mushroom au poivre sauce, whipped potatoes, asparagus), Pork Chop Jamaican (grilled Frenched Pork Chop with Jamaican Jerk seasoning, mango chutney, with sautéed greens, mashed ginger sweet potatoes), Fried Calamari, Grilled Jumbo Scallops (with Gorgonzola cheese, grilled asparagus), Shrimp and Grits, Oysters Rockefeller (oysters topped with spinach, bacon, feta cheese baked with parmesan cheese), Caesar salads, Pecan Encrusted Tilapia, Sirloin au Poivre, Baked Salmon Duchesse (Atlantic Salmon topped with whipped potatoes and baked, caramelized onions, pesto), Low Country Seafood Platter (fantail shrimp, oysters, Tilapia, lightly breaded and fried, served with honey mustard, cocktail and tartar sauce and a baked potato) and Live Main Lobster.
When you come here you should definitely leave some room for dessert since it is one of their specialties.
