Jewelry Trunk Show and Holiday Reception on November 19, 2005

Alchemy in conjunction with Louisa Melrose Gallery presents a trunk show of the jewelry designer Amy Kahn Russell’s latest designs.

One-of-a-kind pieces incorporating pearls, fossils and carved and faceted semi precious stones will be shown at Alchemy located at 17 Bridge Street, Frenchtown NJ from November 12th to November 30th. The bold impressive collection consists of pins doubling as pendants, necklaces, earrings and bracelets.

A holiday reception will be held on November 19th from 5 to 8pm.

Amy Kahn Russell is a fine arts graduate of Tulane, the artist’s personal studies and experience often influence her designs, reflecting on visions from museums or images seen during her extensive travels. The true beauty of the Amy Kahn Russell collection is in the uniqueness and quality of each item. Amy is the forerunner of a naturalistic trend in jewelry. The distinct, unusual elements that comprise every piece make each a timeless work of art, highly prized and desired by many. The sterling collection utilizes minerals, pearls, artifacts, and fossils found worldwide. Many of the rocks and minerals she uses are not only mined just for her, but also cut for her specific design requirements.

Amy has a BFA from Tulane University, and has done postgraduate work at Exeter College of Arts in England, LSU, and the University of Houston. She co-founded a wholesale manufacturing company, Fiddles111; and managed the Fine Jewelry department for Sakowitz and a jewelry outlet in Hong Kong. She resides in Connecticut with her husband Scott and two sons, Joshua and Nicholas.

Alchemy specializes in original hand-crafted apparel of exquisite casual elegance, fine jewelry, unique accessories, attire for weddings, dresses for special occasions, scarves, bags, silks, velvets and gifts, all by artists.

George Michael and Georgetown Builders have scaled back their original proposal and will present the artists concept drawings at this meeting. The photo below shows what the new building that will face Bridge Street will look like.

Delaware River Flood Stage and NJ Flood Information

| Getaways | October 12, 2005

Flood Photo from the 2004 Hurricane Ivan Flood in Frenchtown New Jersey

This post is purely to pass on the incredible governmental information that is available online that I have found since our community and our region has had to deal with repeated flooding over the past 13 months.

For those of us living along the Lower Delaware River near Frenchtown, the most useful site by far is this USGS page:

Delaware River Flood Gauge at Riegelsville NJ

For those looking for the broader local perspective concerning the wider Delaware and Lehigh River Basin, the most useful site by far is this USGS page:

Delaware and Lehigh River Current River Stages in Pennsylvania and New Jersey (PA, NJ)

For those looking for the broader regional perspective about flood stage, river and stream and creek flood conditions in the entire Mid Atlantic or Middle Atlantic Region including New York State, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, and West Virginia, this NWS page is incredible:

National Weather Service Delaware River Flood Warning: October 8, 2005

| Getaways | October 8, 2005

The National Weather Service is again calling for flooding along the Delaware River. Our communities are growing very weary of this to say the least. This will be our third flood in just over a year. This one is predicted to be minor at this point, but the rain is still coming down steady and hard throughout the region.

For the Delaware River at Riegelsville NJ, this forecast compares with our history of recent and historic floods:

In August, 1955 the river reached 38.85 feet.
In September, 2004 the river reached 30.95 feet.
In April, 2005 the river reached 32.75 feet.
On October, 9, 2005 the river is forecast to reach 24.45 feet.

Update, the Delaware River crested at 17.26 feet at 4:00 on October 9th, 2005, some 7 feet below the predicted crest.

The latest press release is available online here:

NOAA IWIN Site

The pertinent information for us along the river is posted below:
