Frederic Leons @ The Philadelphia Museum of Art

Frederic Leons @ The Philadelphia Museum of Art

February, 22, 2005: Philadelphia Museum of Art

While my friend and I were waiting to see the Dali exhibition, we stumbled across an artist that neither one of us had ever heard of before, Belgian Symbolist, Leon Frederic.

The first image featured here is from Frederic’s “Four Seasons: Fall”. The series portrays the four seasons symbolically with four child angels of Spiring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

Frederic’s incredible workmanship and lyrical visualization has made him a new favorite of ours.

The Seasons by Frederiic Leons @ The Philadelphia Museum of Art

In all of my years of art history somehow this genius was never mentioned. Perhaps it is the new focus on realism and a reexamination of movements outside of modernism that has brought Frederic to the surface after years of obscurity. It is great to see realism and abstraction and fantasy all getting their own fair recognition.

The second image is from the same series and features Summer. We have not shown the other images from this series because we want you to go and visit them in person at the museum.

You can visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Website Here.

You can learn more about the artist on Whitford Fine Art’s Biography Page on Leon Frederic.

Visiting Zeus in Philadelphia . Philly Museum of Art

Philadelphia's Zeus Figure

Philadelphia's Zeus Figure

One of my favorite things about visiting Philadelphia is visiting Zeus. I come back over and over again to stare up at him and admire his beauty. Zeus is the central figure on the pediment of the Northern frieze of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The sculptures were done by C. Paul Jennewein and awarded the Medal of Honor of the Architectural League.

The photo above shows Zeus at the center along with other Greek Gods and Goddesses. The photo below shows the same figures from a distance.

The Saatchi, Sachi, Saci, Satchi Collection: Ovation

Saci Sachi Satchi

Saci Sachi Satchi

Just a simple post about one great show on contemporary visual artists on Ovation TV/television that I saw tonight.

This strange show was already in progress when I tuned in. I am always surprised to run across anything on TV about the visual arts, and when I stumbled across this one, I was blown away by the range of works being presented and the striking original concepts being presented by the artists.

As I watched more of the show I learned that the art being featured was from the Saatchi Collection. The art intrigued me, so I went to Google and punched in these phrases:

The Sachi Collection
The Saci Collection
The Satchi Collection

How the hell was I supposed to know that Saci was spelled with an extra A and an H and a T?

Anyway, I did finally find it after the show rolled the credits and I saw who was responsible for this collection. It was The Saatchi Gallery in London.

The gallery represents artists that do works like traditional folk art with elephant dung attachments, incredible installation works of 3 dimensional trompe de l’oeil, and abstraction impressionist pieces with no subject matter that feel like portraits.

I just wanted to help you guys that love art find this when you hear about it.

Scary Painted Windows . Halloween in Frenchtown NJ

| frenchtown, frenchtown nj | November 2, 2004

One of Frenchtown NJ’s most enduring and strange traditions continued this weekend as local students from Frenchtown Elementary School descended upon the shopping district to turn store display windows into canvases. This is done every year in town a few days before Halloween, and the masterpieces remain on view until after the Halloween Parade. In the photo above, a huge green monster roams a landscape of of Peter Maxian swirly colored clouds or mountains.

To see more photos of this, our favorite window, go to the
