Fonthill is located on a large 60 acre estate in the heart of Doylestown Pennsylvania. It was originally built as the private home of Henry C. Mercer in 1912. This sprawling spiraling castle has an amorphous almost haphazard feeling to it that makes for an exceptionally strange structure and a masterpiece of American architecture.

The castle has 44 rooms, 18 fireplaces, 32 staircases, 21 chimneys, 200 windows and thousands of decorative ceramic tiles that cover the floors, walls and ceilings of this amazing and eccentric structure.

Fonthill was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1985. It is operated by the Bucks County Historical Society and a staff of 40 dedicated volunteers. These volunteers guide over 30,000 people through the castle annually.
