Best Contemporary Fine Dining in Savannah: Sapphire Grill

Sapphire Grill won our best contemporary award because of the chef’s bold culinary statements and the restaurant’s stark modern beauty. Chef Christopher J. Nason’s menu is tantalizing and his delivery is superb. Today, some 4 years after I first wrote this piece, his menu is still surprising me. Of his current offerings, his grilled lobster and quail with corn soubise, lemon brioche, citron cream and rosemary perfume and his Chorizo and Camembert stuffed chicken with Champagne poached cauliflower and cream of tomato sound wonderful.

Here’s an excerpt from our feature story:

… Chef Nason started his culinary career in Savannah, and opened Sapphire Grill in 1998. His cooking brings together fresh caught seafood, organic free-range meats, game, poultry, vegetables and herbs from local and regional farms.

Sapphire Grill features a dark, rich, modern atmosphere that is very comfortable and sexy. The prices are reasonable but dinner with cocktails can get pricey. Appetizers run $9.00 to $19.00 and entrees run $24.00 to $37.00. The restaurant is as close as you can get to Paula Deen’s Lady and Sons in terms of location [right next door] but in terms of style and quallity, it’s in a different galaxy.

Sapphire is open 7 nights a week for dinner with later hours on Friday and Saturday nights. They also do wine dinners, tasting tables and catering.
