Best of New Hope
The Best that New Hope has to offer is it’s art and culture. It is a magnet for the visual, performing and culinary arts of the region.
New Hope’s history as an artists community goes back to the early 20th century when a group of painters settled in here drawn to the natural beauty of this place. These painters came to be known as the Pennsylvania Impressionists and the New Hope School.

Theater found a home in New Hope in 1939, with the opening of the Bucks County Playhouse in a former mill along the Delaware River.
This tradition continues today, with the art galleries, art museums, and theater still going strong.
Today New Hope is filled with charming restaurants, little boutiques, bars, live music, and bed and breakfast inns. It is the starting point for thousands of visitors who come to getaway from the big city and suburban life of New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC and New Jersey.
The Bucks County Playhouse opened with it’s first performance in the mill that gives New Hope it’s name in 1939. A few years earlier, a group of residents worked to keep the mill from being torn down, restored it and began preparing it for it’s new life as a theater.
Today it produces plays for comedies, dramas, and musicals for adults and children from spring through the holiday season. It is one of the keystones of culture for the entire region.
