Lady and Sons . Paula Deen . Paula Dean

Paula Deen’s Famous “The Lady and Sons” Restaurant on Congress Street is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state of Georgia. If you are planning on going, be prepared to wait in line.

Paula Deen and the “Lady and Sons Empire” are a huge draw to Savannah. People come from all over the world to eat this woman’s cooking. Host of the Food Network’s “Paula’s Party”, Mrs. Dean began her restaurant business in 1989 with a lunch delivery service called The Bag Lady. After many years she opened her restaurant in its current location on Congress Street in 2003.

The most popular choice at restaurant is the “all you can eat Southern home-cookin’ buffet” that she serves for lunch and dinner. The buffet always has some of her famous fried chicken on it, in addition to Southern style vegetables. Menu items include items like fried green tomatoes, crab stew, chicken pot pie and crab cakes. For her dinner menu she serves other items like lobster and fresh seafood. The restaurant is open 7 days a week but on Sunday, only the lunch buffet is served.

The restaurant is hugely popular and you might as well go on down and get in line well before you think you’ll be hungry. They do not take reservations except for larger parties. On the day that we were there, we arrived about 2:30 in the afternoon on a weekday, and did not have to wait at all. The restaurant is closed daily from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, so the cooks can get the food ready for supper and the waitresses and waiters can take a breather.

The Lady does have a full service bar serving wines, beers and cocktails. The restaurant also host larger groups in private dining rooms for banquets and parties, and offers catering.
