Pirates House

The Pirates House is one of Savannah’s oldest restaurants.

The Pirates House is located next door to Georgia’s oldest house, built in 1734. As the years passed, this house became an inn for seafarers and traders that provided them with lodging, spirits and food. It is located at the eastern gateway to the historic district, not far from the Savannah River and the shops and bars of River Street. The Pirates’ House does have quite a reputation for being haunted and the employees are well versed in the lore of this place. The place has such history to it, that it is listed not only as a restaurant, but as an attraction.

The atmosphere here varies according to the dining room that you choose. The restaurant boast 15 different dining rooms. Some of the rooms are decidedly rustic in spirit with brick, stone and dark wood walls. Nautical is a theme that runs throughout the Pirates’ House, with fishnets, model ships, ship prints, and even a life sized pirate to greet you when you come in the door. In other rooms the feeling is much more elegant with chandeliers, bookcases, wallpaper and white walls.

The lunch menu here features a “Plantation Buffet” that is quite a spread for $13.95. Some of the signature dishes they serve on this buffet are: Honey Pecan Fried Chicken (their “signature pecan sauce drenched over perfectly marinated fried chicken”), Barbeque Ribs, Seafood au Gratin, Chicken Pot Pie, Fried Tilapia, Buttermilk Biscuits, Sweet Potatoes, Collard Greens, Squash Casserole, Green Beans with Butter Beans, Macaroni and Cheese, New Potato Mash, Pecan Pie, Banana Pudding and Petit Fours.

Other lunch choices include: She Crab Soup, Okra Gumbo, Fried Shrimp (fantail shrimp lightly breaded, French fries, Potato Salad, or Cole Slaw, cocktail and tartar sauce) Shrimp + Oyster Combos, Low Country Chicken Caesar Salad (grilled chicken breast with Low Country spices on Romaine lettuce, parmesan, scallions, bacon bits, croutons, Caesar dressing), Rainbow Shrimp Pasta (sautéed river shrimp, garlic cream sauce, bell peppers, parmesan cheese, angel hair pasta), Hamburgers, Salmon Focaccia (grilled salmon, focaccia, chiffonade of spinach and diced tomatoes with dill shallot sauce), Crab Cake Sandwiches, Oyster Po Boys, Steak Sandwiches and more.

The dinner menu includes some signature dishes that the restaurant is famous for, that are offered on the lunch menu. plus other dishes like: Low Country Boil (shrimp, corn on the cob, sausage, served with cocktail sauce), Shrimp and Grits, Crab Cakes, Low Country Spring Rolls (bbq pulled pork, collard greens in spring roll, fried, served with spicy mustard, bbq sauce, cornbread), Shrimp + Fried Green Tomatoes (grilled jumbo shrimp, thick cut fried green tomatoes), Seafood Pasta (sautéed shrimp, scallops, vegetables, marinara or garlic cream sauce, angel hair pasta), Grouper Florentine (grilled grouper, creamed spinach, angel hair pasta, carrots, buerre blanc), Flounder Belle Franklin (native crabmeat, shrimp, flounder filet baked in butter, herbs, wine, topped with supreme sauce, cheeses, toasted almonds, served with mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables), Pork Chops (Frenched pork chops, whole grain mustard demi glaze, Low Country grits, mixed vegetables), Barbeque Baby Back Ribs (citrus bbq sauce, mixed vegetables, fried sweet onion rings) and Filet Mignon (8 ounce filet, rosemary demi glaze, mixed vegetables, home style mashed potatoes).

The Pirates House is open for lunch and dinner, 7 days a week. They offer a full service bar with beer, wine and cocktails. With their large facility, they can host private parties, luncheons, banquets and receptions.
