Atlantic City, NJ: The Skylands of New Jersey Tourism Council Executive Director, Lisa Marie Arieno accepted a “Tourism Award of Excellence” for the “Frenchtown River Festival” held in September on Labor Day Weekend 2005.

The award was received on Thursday, April 6th at the Governor’s Conference for Tourism in Atlantic City’s Trump Plaza.

“The festival was nominated and submitted earlier this year to the New Jersey Office of Travel & Tourism in Trenton on behalf of the Frenchtown River Fest Committee members who put this event into place and made it happen”, claims Lisa Marie. “The overall concept was to bring awareness, education and outreach to the public by inviting various county-wide non-profit environmental organizations to this tourism driven event and educate the visitors about the environment and the areas surrounding the Delaware River as well as offer a festive experience to Frenchtown by offering outdoor family fun entertainment throughout the weekend”. The event also raised over $500 for the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina Victims.

Organizers of the event last year were Cleo and Barry Sharplin of Alchemy, Sam Phillips of The Studio, Keith Strunk of River Union Stage, John Hindman of Thistle, Deb Kaplan of Mendham Gallery, John Stringfellow of Frenchtowner.com and Lisa Marie Arieno of the Skylands of New Jersey Tourism Council.

The event for this year is set again for Labor Day, September 2 and 3 2006 and environmental, historic preservation, nature and farm-based educational non-profit organizations are welcome to participate at the festival by calling 908-996-6689 or e-mailing lmarieno@earthlink.net.
